After going to a local television news' website searching out info on that twat Bennish, I reached my breaking point with KUSA, Channel 9, local NothingButCrap affilliate. This station has become so liberal over the past few years that it's unbearable. I sent this e-mail yesterday:
This is the straw that has broken this camel's back:
I have increasingly been unable to tolerate your liberal bias. This has been a growing problem with your station over the past few years and continues to worsen. In searching out information on the Jay Bennish issue I went to your web site looking for an image and found this.
Students walk out of OHS in protest? Teacher criticized for expressing his views on American foreign policy? You posts pictures of students holding signs, tape over their mouths and completely ignore the real story in order to promote your agenda.
I have often shook my head in disbelief with your presentation of the news. I have lost count as to how many times I've had to change the channel because I can no longer tolerate your liberal dribble.
The media is to simply report the news. It is to be unbiased and clear. It is to present both sides of a story and allow the viewer to come to their own conclusions. You have failed miserably and it's a shame that you cannot think for yourself and must follow the drum beat of the rest of the left-leaning media. At least half of our nation is conservative and you insult and belittle us repeatedly.
I will never watch your news broadcasts again, never. I'd rather watch a station that accurately reports a story and appeals to the spectrum of it's viewers.

Their response came today:
Thanks for your note. Interestingly, I just hung with a caller whose daughter attends a public high school in Jefferson County, asking why we haven't done stories about the conservative bias in those schools. She asked if Republicans owned our television station because of our obvious bias in favor of Sean Allen and against Jay Bennish.
At least part of the reaction to our news coverage is in the eye of the beholder. We really do our best to be fair.
Thanks again.

Total BS, total. Real news is ignored so they can focus on ridiculous social, culture, sexual orientation garbage. Blah Blah Blah!!!! It's like the end of The O'Reilly Factor. Locals here know, 9News is blatantly liberal. Bite. Me. Rant. Over.
Please God, huge meteor, huge-ass meteor.
Posted by Stacy at March 3, 2006 07:30 PM | TrackBackTake a different approach. Force yourself to sit through every one of their newscasts for a week, making note of the sponsors whose ads are run. Then contact all those sponsors, expressing your displeasure with their sponsorship of such a clearly biased "news" outlet.
Posted by: Jeff H at March 3, 2006 08:32 PMNot an unexpected on 9's part. To hell with them. But it's not just 9 ... even our local Fox affiliate (31) is biased as well, oddly enough. I was watching their coverage of this idiot's story the otheer day and they prety much reported the same thing for a good 3 or 4 minutes and then, at the end, they spent about 5 seconds saying that, "A few students also showed up to demand the teacher's dismissal". So we got almost 5 minutes of left-leaning propaganda and 5 seocnds of the "other side". Pure, complete, and utter BULLSHIT.
Posted by: Sin at March 3, 2006 09:26 PM... and I need to spellcheck more often. :)
Posted by: Sin at March 3, 2006 09:27 PMYou just prayed for a' "Huge Ass Meteor." This is why we love you Stacy.
Jeff is right. You should direct your letters to the sponsors. If one of them gets hacked and he pulls adds over this, the station owner will me miffed.
Posted by: bigwhitehat at March 3, 2006 10:29 PMI think you give the news editors who cleared that coverage way too much credit. Don't believe for a second that they sit around the newsroom and rate their story ideas for political bias. They've got a huge, never-ending deliverable to fill, and they're lucky to find enough stupid local stories to fill their airtime.
This isn't a politically-charged piece. Rather, it's a typically brain-dead piece of filler that gets viewers to the all-important sports and weather package at the end of the hour.
I guess my own media biases are showing through. In the interest of disclosure, I'm a journalist who's spent more time around the newsdesk than I'd care to admit.
Posted by: Carmi at March 3, 2006 10:33 PMYes Carmi, it does show; however you're making a very important point here. So much of the news is filled with stupid stuff. Realistically, there is roughly 15 minutes to get the news in between sports, weather and commercials. You would think they could scrounge up 15 minutes of actual news.
Jeff, king of letters to the editors, you've done that before, haven't you?
Sin, I've seen it a hundred times on there too. Back in the '04 elections I remember a piece they did where they spoke with 5 Dems and 1 Republican. 5 to 1. That's not balanced.
BWH, me loves the meteors. Mwah!
Posted by: Stacy at March 3, 2006 11:54 PMYou know what? I'm not sure it bothers me anymore. I've been forcing myself to listen to Air America, and other very biased news outlets.
I'm new to this whole political thing, so it's probably easier for me. However, what I have found is that the longer I listen, the more further away from their point of view I become. It almost makes me feel smarter for some reason.
I think Jeff and BWH are right though. You should also let us know who those sponsers are. We can send emails as well. Most products are national, so it doesn't matter where we live. Even if it's under a rock. :)
Posted by: von at March 3, 2006 11:59 PMStacy...NBC really means.."No Body Cares", Anyway, good letter. Secondly, I think the response about "we just got a call from a parent, blah blah blah" is a load of shit.
Just trying to cover their ass's. By the way, Love the new site design my dear. Looking good as always.

Posted by: RegularRon at March 4, 2006 09:54 AMJust breaking! Channel 9 headquarters was hit by a huge ass meteor 10 minutes ago!!! The call was put out to FEMA, and it's been 47 seconds and they haven't responded! It's probably going to be a replay of Katrina where President Bush let all those black people die!!! He's probably not helping us because we're Democrats!!! There was a memo on the desk of a weather station in antarctia warning about this meteor!!! They probably just sat back and let it hit us with a smug look on their RICH, PRIVILEGED, COUNTRY-CLUB-GOING, ILLEGAL-ALIEN-HIRING, HUNTING-PARTNER-SHOOTING, REPUBLICAN faces!!!
(PS: Stacy, would you be able to alter the comment template to put a horizontal rule [less than]HR[greater than] at the end of comments to make them easier to read?)
Tony, it shows fine on mine but I'll look at it. What an accurate portrayal of leftie media, LOL.
Von, you deserve an award.
RR, I need to e-mail you.
Posted by: Stacy at March 4, 2006 11:13 AMYou know....I'm getting tired of you Conservatives complaining about a LIBERAL bias in the media! Have ANY of you FUCKIN' MORONS listened to TALK RADIO lately?
And I'm NOT talking about Air America either.
Almost EVERY talk show that discusses political issues is CONSERVATIVELY biased.
We're talking about Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Oliver North, ALL of FOX News Radio (except for Alan Colmes), Michael Reagan, and of course, there's the junkie himself, Rush Limbaugh.
And you know what the scary part is? THE LIST GOES ON!!!
And then on TV, you have FOX News, who CLAIMS to be "Fair & Balanced", but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they really aren't. They're just as Conservatively biased as the aforementioned radio hosts (If not more so). That's why I watch either CNN or MSNBC. :)
So BEFORE you go off on some tangent crying "Liberal" bias, TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR OWN BACK YARD!!!
All that said though, I do agree that the media is only supposed to REPORT the news. NOT break it down for us.
Cheers :)
Pat
