Warrant Wedgie

This is a beauty.

LOVELAND, Ohio -- An Ohio woman was arrested after she didn't pay just more than $1 that she owed in income taxes, WLWT-TV in Cincinnati reported.

Deborah Combs owed the city of Loveland $1.16 last year, but she also hadn't filed her city income tax forms in five years, the television station said.

She said officers pulled her over and acted as though she were a violent criminal.

"One sheriff approached my car with his hand on his gun," she said. "Another from the other side of the car leaned in and said, 'Are you Deborah Combs?' He said, 'We have a warrant for your arrest.' I was absolutely shocked."

So, here's the test. What do you think this housewife's opinion is on this one? Look in the extended entry for the answer.

Here and here.

She was arrested because she had an active warrant out for her. When a police officer calls in a plate and/or driver they are given information about that person. They are not aware of the fine details of the case, just simply, this person has a warrant on them.

I don't care if it's $1.16 or $116,000. Principle is principle, period. Not only had she not paid what was due, she did not file city taxes for five years. FIVE!!!!

Follow the rules people, follow the rules. She surely must have received multiple notifications from the city regarding her tax due, so claiming ignorance is impossible.

Yes, there are more important matters for our police and judiciary to tend to; but it is simply about being responsible.

When you're right, you're right. And the media are making a huge deal out of the action by the police, who as you point out, have a warrant for arrest, but no details of the charges.

Five years without filing taxes and only $1.16 owed? What town was that again? I think we'll be moving there soon.

Been there. Take all city debts seriously. Jail sucks.

Good point, Stacey. A warrant is a warrant. Besides, if she was dumb enough to ignore $1.16 for that long, she deserved what she got.
