Like most women, when I am standing in line at the grocery store, I glance at the glamour magazines. This immediately sends me into a meltdown mode. Looking at those women knocks about a foot off my height and I slowly melt to the floor just like The Wicked Witch Of The West in the Wizard Of Oz. Just as the cashier reaches for the phone to announce "wet clean-up at register 5", I remember this picture.
About 13 years ago I had a portfolio made. I wanted to have some really good pictures of myself, so I found a studio that used professional hair and makeup artists. The shoot was fun, but I learned something from it that I found immensely valuable. Being there, seeing all the tricks, the lighting, the filters, the posing, the tricks with hair and makeup; left me with the knowledge that it's all a facade. The women posing for glamour magazines all go through the same thing with their shoots. Dozens upon dozens of pictures are taken with only a few making the cut.
The picture at the top, it's not the real me. This is really me.
If you have or know a girl between the ages of about 10 to 15, make her read this post. What they are seeing is not real. The photos that turn up in the tabloids? NOW THOSE ARE REAL!
