This morning while listening to Laura Ingraham she touched once again upon the state of women in Saudi Arabia. Specifically she spoke of women still not being allowed to drive and how they must have their bodies covered at all times in public. It was also stated that in a court of law women have only half the credibility of men.
I have stated before with regards to my feelings on Islam; and when it comes to religion I am actually quite tolerant. My insurance agent is Buddist, my son's preschool teacher was Jehovah's Witness, we have some dear friends who are Mormon. All of these religions are in direct constrast with my beliefs but I am one to appreciate the fact that if anyone believes in any religion, I admire them and their convictions. In a world where the secular agenda appears to have taken centerstage it takes much fortitude to display one's beliefs. Islam however I have a difficult time respecting.
I understand their reasoning for keeping women covered. They feel that it curtails the lustful nature of men if a woman cannot be seen yet rape runs rampant throughout Islamic countries. And unfortunately in the Muslim culture women are victimized twice when raped. The perpetrator is not held accountable while the woman is sometimes killed and quite often is persuaded to commit suicide.
What kind of religion allows the physical, sexual and emotional abuse of women? Islam. What kind of religion does not hold accountable the men guilty of these crimes? Islam. What religion allows virtually no rights for women? Islam. What religion performs female circumcision stripping away the pleasure of a husband/wife sexual relationship? Islam.
Where does the left reside in this battle? Where do the women's rights groups place their anger? Their opinions mostly lean towards rebuking Christianity. What does The Bible say about how a husband should treat his wife?
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, That He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. Ephesians 5:25-27
Below I've placed some links to help all understand the plight of women in the Arab world. Now I know that not all Muslims believe and/or practice the discrimination of women. But most of my anger towards this extends to those in this country so ready to defend Islam and publicly display their hatred of Christianity.
I am a child of God's kingdom and am happy that I have the right to (bare) arms.

Bear in mind I'm crabby as hell today...A friend of mine sent me a link to a blog that gave Christian reasons why women shouldn't participate in organized sports. The Savage Love column regularly lambastes the Christian right for its Puritanical views.Every American leftist turns a blind eye to the fact that despite our faults, there is no better country in which to be a minority or a woman than the U.S. of A. Period.Women in America can be doctors, lawyers, Indian Chiefs, or even (shudder) stay at home moms. They can walk down the street in reasonable safety, unlike under the previous Iraqi power structure, in which Sadaam's sons regularly kidnapped women off the streets, then raped, tortured, and murdered them. But no: we were wrong to go to Iraq. Christians are a threat. George Bush is the devil. I don't even know what my original point was, except to say you have beautiful arms, Stacy.

It's interesting that Saudi Arabia is the only country with an outright ban on women driving. I assume other countries are more subtle about it. I do feel I should point out that Muslims are not the only ones who practice FGM. Nevertheless, their culture does seem to be one of terror and degredation to women.

Excellent point Nettie; I have read numerous articles over the years about the outright mutilation of women's "what not's". It's not performed in a medical facility and often leaves the girl with a lifetime of problems. Tom-excellent comment as always. Wolfie-thanks. Jeff-thank you; I have twigs for arms so I lift in the summer months when shirts are sleeveless.

Why aren't there any American feminists to the rescue? Why aren't there any American lawyers to the rescue? Why isn't Amnesty International to the rescue? Probably too busy looking for wet Qurans at Gitmo or Abu Ghraib. I guess if women getting shot in the back of the head in soccer stadiums by the Taliban didn't raise a world-wide protest against Islamic sharia from leftists, then this stuff must seem pretty tame to them.

A few bad apples, ruin the entire basket. Do you hate the entire muslim community because of these extremists then? I am sad that the media has portrayed the religion as a violent one when it is actually a gentle religion where respect is held upmost. Yes, there are always people who uses religion for their own advantage. I believe that it happens for other religion too, not only Islam. Yes, I am sad that there are countries who treats women and their way of thinking is incomprehensible. However, I have to disagree with these statements"What kind of religion allows the physical, sexual and emotional abuse of women? Islam. What kind of religion does not hold accountable the men guilty of these crimes? Islam. What religion allows virtually no rights for women? Islam. What religion performs female circumcision stripping away the pleasure of a husband/wife sexual relationship? Islam."I may not be a religious person. But an overgeneralising perception like that is very hurtful. None of the statements are true at all. In fact, Islam reveres all womenkind. One could similarly use the same statement and replace it with another religion. But, this is your own opinion. Perhaps if you knew any (non extremist) muslim acquaintance. You might have a different viewpoint. I just hope that you dont lump everyone into a whole stereotype.

Marina, I DID mention that not all Muslims practice the discrimination of women. But I am not incorrect in my assessment. This is not my opinion, these are the facts and everyone knows it. Follow the links, I didn't create them, they were written by those who are aware of the situations. AND if you read close enough you would have seen that I said much of my frustration is with the left in this country so willing to defend Islam and attack Christianity. You should re-read this posting.

Marina, is that an oxymoron? How can you profess to not be a religious person, yet profess to us that you know what Islam does or does not revere. While I submit to you that perhaps not ALL members of the islam/muslim world do not treat women and life with such contempt and disrespect, I sbumit to you that they ARE THE MINORITY! When was the last time you say the global muslim community stand up and repudiate all the dastardly deeds of Saddam, and every other radical fundamentalist? I haven't seen anyone recently, and the media would have us believe that America will burn in hell and that we are to blame for them attacking us. That is not heresay or stereotyping, but the God's honest truth as it's being reported on in todays world. Who's stereotyping who I ask.

Stacy, them ain't twigs, girl--you got yourself a pair of stout branches there, chickee-poo.And Fiery, you nailed it, man. Islam is a morally bankrupt, legalistic behavioral code--nothing more. It is not a true religion, in that it does not stress any meaningful relationship with God. And it is truly misogynistic in the extreme. The burka is a case-in-point: ostensibly in order to shield women from the lustful leers of men, and the behavior that lust is assumed to inevitably lead to, they constrain the behavior of the women--the victims. Why not stress moral behavior for the men? But instead, the men's behavior is considered a given and is not punished. Amazingly backward thinking way of dealing with the issue.
