Roughly a month ago

Roughly a month ago I posted this about an experience we had in a Build A Bear Workshop store. This has made it's way around the blogosphere and ended up in the lap of a CEO at BABW.

The CEO has responded to the blogger (who is also a columnist in a NY newspaper) that brought this story to her attention. The said CEO responded quickly and kindly. She has genuine concern for their product. My hats off to you, mam.

My statements, again for the record:

1. Yes, this bear was dressed inappropriately for a business that caters to young children. Boots, black leather mini-skirts and skimpy tops do not convey a look that 8 year-olds girls should be striving for.

2. I did not approach the management about this bear, I instead spoke to my sons about the importance of modesty and a girl dressing like that is inappropriate.

3. My son that stated "hey look mom, it's hooker bear" is 15 years-old, so he knows what a hooker is.

4. This experience did not turn me away from BABW. I do not hold BABW accountable for the scantily clad bear. If I were to guess, I would think that it was dressed by a teen-aged girl who just didn't know better. We have and will continue to shop there. I love that store and watching the children in there; it is the epitome of childhood innocence.

My only regret with BABW is not purchasing their stock several years ago. We are more than willing to go plop down $40 for a stuffed animal with clothes; a true marketing genius birthed BABW.

Thanks.
