I am continually amazed by the antics of the Mexican government. Many of you are aware of the murder of Denver Police Officer Donnie Young. Detectives Young and Bishop were working off-duty security at a baptismal celebration last month in Denver. Raul Gomez-Garcia was thrown out of the party and later returned shooting both officers with their backs turned; Young was killed and Bishop was injured.

On a month long manhunt Gomez-Garcia was found and arrested in Mexico by Mexican officials. But this story becomes bizarre at this point. Because Colorado has the death penalty and life in prison without the possibility of parole, Mexico refuses to extradite Gomez-Garcia to the US for trial. Denver DA Mitch Morrissey, desperate to get Gomez-Garcia back to Colorado, has filed lesser charges of Second Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder.

Mexico has consistently bit the hand that feeds it, and so I would like to reiterate what I said here last month. We will not be spending our vacation dollars in Mexico anytime soon. Surely we are not the only family that has chosen to do this. Standing up for principles is the right thing to do. I am desperate to return to the Mexican coast but it will not be happening.
