I was going to forego a post on this miserable excuse of a senator, but my anguish over his words will not allow me to. It has become apparent that the liberals in the Senate have no concern for the citizens of our country. Senator Durbin, are you aware that the Islamofacists are not concerned with your ideology? That your children, your grandchildren, your friends are no more safe than the average conservative? That you could tell a terrorist till your blue in the face, "Wait, I don't like President Bush's policies!" but it would be irrelevant because you're an American first? Do you realize the irreversible damage you have caused to our nation? To our soldiers? Your half-assed apology and back-stepping are of little comfort.
Let's refresh our memories:
Pol Pot-Killed between 1 and 3 million of his own people. Many of these individuals were tortured and starved. These were citizens; men, women and children. The "Killing Fields", enough said.
Soviet Gulags-An estimated 50 million (MILLION!!) people died in these labor camps. Temperatures would dip as low as -80 below Fahrenheit. Many of these people were beaten, starved, and deprived of adequate clothing.
Nazi Concentration Camps-Six million Jews, killed. Christians were not spared, homosexuals were not spared, gypsies were not spared, children were not spared. Medical experiments were carried out on the elderly, the children, the expectant mother. Starvation, torture, gas chambers; lamp shades made from human flesh.
These are historical facts Senator Durbin.
Guantanamo Bay-Religious freedom, respect of religious rights, more than adequate food, adequate housing, medical care. And Senator Durbin, do you know what is the most important thing to remember here? Even if the above mentioned items were comparable to the alledged actions at Gitmo, the one thing that you need to remember is this; the above mentioned people, the ones killed in labor, death or containment camps; the individuals taken to a field in Cambodia and bludgeoned to death; do you know what is different about them than the detainees at Gitmo? Do you? They sir, were innocent! They were not international terrorist. They did not kill innocent civilians in the streets. They did not fly planes into skyscrapers or governmental buildings.
The alledged abuses are not real abuses. They are at worst, being uncomfortable. Realistically Senator, how cold can a room get with just an air conditioner? 60 degrees? 55 maybe? I highly doubt it came close to the -80 below suffered by those in the Gulags. It has been reported that the detainees at Gitmo gain an average of 13 pounds there. Do you think the Jews in the concentration camps gained 13 pounds while there? I've seen the pictures of the emaciated individuals; so frail that you cannot even determine their gender!!
You have spat upon the very souls of those people!! Senator Durbin; you are a disgrace to your state, our senate and our nation. If you have a shred of decency in you, you'll resign.
