Amnesty International is calling for a sentence of eye gouging against a man in Iran not to be carried out. The 28-year-old man, known only as Vahid, has been sentenced to have his eyes surgically gouged out for a crime committed when he was 16 years old. Read the rest of the story here.
Once again, Senator Durbin; do we still equate the actions against the detainees at Gitmo to torture? Hmmm, food for thought. You know, food that meets the dietary guidelines of Islam, like the food the detainees at Gitmo get.
I am one of those individuals who believes that there should be consequences for our actions, and obviously this young man committed a crime against another whether by accident or not. There are elements of Islamic law with regards to punishment that I admire. If you know that you could lose your hand for stealing, you might would think more than twice about committing the crime. But unfortunately in many Islamic countries your guilt or innocence is irrelevant.
But hey, America's bad, Bush is evil and those damned Evangelical Christians are repressing the nation with their ideology. Gosh, Iran looks like the place to be; better call my travel agent.
